Ingredients

  • 3 large ripe avocados Should give slightly when pressed
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice Keeps guacamole green and adds tang
  • ¼ cup red onion Finely diced for texture
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro Chopped, or omit if preferred
  • 1 medium jalapeño pepper Seeded and minced, adjust for heat
  • 1 clove garlic Minced finely
  • ½ teaspoon salt Or to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cumin Adds depth and warmth
  • ½ cup diced tomatoes Optional, for chunkier texture
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper Optional, for extra heat

Equipment

  • 1 Medium mixing bowl To mash and mix the avocados
  • 1 Fork or potato masher To mash the avocados to desired texture
  • 1 Sharp knife To dice onions, jalapeños, and cilantro
  • 1 Cutting board For chopping fresh ingredients safely

Method

  1. Cut the avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium bowl. Make sure they're ripe but not mushy.
  2. Use a fork to mash the avocados until you reach your preferred consistency. Leave some chunks for texture or mash smooth.
  3. Squeeze fresh lime juice over the mashed avocado right away to prevent browning and add bright flavor.
  4. Stir in finely diced red onion, chopped cilantro, minced jalapeño, and minced garlic. Mix everything together well.
  5. Add salt and ground cumin. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. The cumin makes a big difference.
  6. Transfer to a serving bowl and enjoy immediately with tortilla chips, tacos, or your favorite dishes.

Notes

The secret to amazing guacamole is using perfectly ripe avocados and adding the lime juice right away. Don't skip the cumin, it adds depth. This tastes best when served fresh, but you can store it with plastic wrap pressed directly on top.
