- Whisk warm milk, yeast, and a pinch of sugar in a bowl to activate the yeast bubbles.
- Mix flour, cocoa, remaining sugar, salt, butter, egg, and coloring to form a soft dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
- Rise the covered dough in a greased bowl for 1 hour until it has doubled in size.
- Roll the dough into a rectangle and spread with butter and cinnamon sugar to create the filling.
- Roll the dough tightly and cut into 12 even pieces using dental floss for clean edges.
- Proof the rolls in a greased pan for 30 minutes to allow them to puff up.
- Bake at 375°F for 25–30 minutes until the rolls are golden brown and cooked through.
- Frost the warm rolls with cream cheese icing immediately so it melts into the spirals.
