- Combine the warm water, sugar, yeast, flour, salt, and two tablespoons of butter, kneading until a smooth, elastic dough forms before letting it rise.
- Melt the remaining butter to cook the minced garlic briefly, then stir in the thyme and let it cool.
- Roll the risen dough into a rectangle, brush with the herb butter, sprinkle with mozzarella, and roll it up tightly.
- Slice the log lengthwise, twist the two strands together with the cut sides facing up, and place in a greased loaf pan to rise.
- Brush the twisted loaf with the beaten egg and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for thirty minutes until golden brown.
